Savasana's power

One of the greatest boons of the practice is at the end when we recline the body into Corpse Pose or Savasana in Sanskrit. It is in this last pose that the body gets to assimilate all the different releases, openings etc. and for once in our lives we get to just be without having to do anything. And if you think that’s easy try it out some time and notice how the moment you get still the mind seems to race on the double, and all the unfinished conversations come flooding in. In yoga we learn to stay focused on the breath and stay present in the moment with what is, not what the mind leads us to belief.

DSCF4747 Yoga is good for everybody, no matter what size clothes you wear, whether you are flexible or stiff, young or old. All you need to do is find a class that is designed for your level of activity. The hardest thing is getting the foot out the door to that first class after that it just gets better.

Many of us have found that our moods are affected, when we practice a feeling of lightness permeates our being, feeling centered, calm and relaxed. If we miss out on one if feels like you got up on the wrong foot. I find myself more irritable, snap at my family, not quite in the flow of things.

Imagine a world where people take an extra breath before they scream and shout at one another, or for break time people could take a few minutes in Corpse Pose, Savasana (relaxation pose) to center themselves, do you think our world would become a more peaceful place, do think we would suffer less from stress related illnesses …. All it takes is a few minutes every day, but even taking a class once a week is a wonderful way to start.
